Taman Mini Malaysia Melaka

Here are some photos from my trip to Melaka in February 2005.

Taman Mini Malaysia is filled with traditional houses from all the states but I'm sorry to say I don't have a photo for all of them. Johor is missing because the house was under maintenance and we couldn't go in and the exterior was not that interesting. I was also trying to conserve my films.

Silly me I only brought one roll and it was in the camera. Some kind of photographer I am. Every amateur knows that you must always bring an extra roll. Well, there was a shop that sell films but they only have some generic brands with 200 speed only. No choice but to buy those. I chose the most expensive one hoping that the price indicates its level of quality.

I'm very loyal to Kodak Max 400. You got to live to the max baby! But the truth is, I'm still no expert in choosing the proper angle, getting the right light etc etc so better get the film that covers the basic, just to be save.

As usual, start from the bottom to get the full experience.

The big finale

You will be treated with a 45-minute cultural show at 3pm and 4pm courtesy of Nuraniza Idris' dance troupe. Quite a treat.

After you visited Rumah Sarawak you can go to another area of the park, Taman Mini Asean. This is another interesting place to visit but very huge. And you don't have to pay any extra to get to this park.

However, when we were there, the place is under maintenance so we can't go into any of the houses. What a shame.

Very creepy

Remind you of anything?

No?

Ak.. akk... akkk....

Nothing?

Then I can't help you. Obviously you haven't seen Ju-on.

Very nice

The special thing about Rumah Pahang is that there's nothing special about it.

What the hell?

Juvenile delinquents at Rumah Terengganu Posted by Hello

The first thing that these kids did when they got into Rumah Terengganu were to play with the weaving utensils displayed there. Do Malaysians need to be told what you can and cannot do every time? Don't they know that just because there's no 'Don't Touch' sign, it doesn't mean the display items can be their plaything. And what I find really annoying is the guardian (the one in blue with black pants) was just standing there watching them, not saying anything.

I took this picture with the flash off. That's why it's blurry.

I love the design on the railings. Simple but very classy.

Rumah Kelantan - interior

Taman Mini Malaysia Melaka Feb 2005 Posted by Hello

A unique feature of a Kelantan house is that it is divided into five sections. You will first walk into a big living area (and in this particular house, you will see a bed - don't ask me why). Going further in you will pass a small section about 3 feet in length and walk through another door towards another big area. To get to the back of the house you will pass another small section again.

I don't know why this is so but it sure makes a good defense mechanism. Imagine bolting every door and placing guards at each section while you hide in the middle. Enemies will sure have a tough time getting to you from the front or the back.

The bedroom has a window that opens to the kitchen. Don't ask me why.

Another view of the verandah. I think you can tell that this is my favourite house.

Just look at the intricate carvings on the front wall. Very nice.

Rumah Selangor

I've never seen any house in Selangor that looks like this. This is a view from the back of the house and you can see the three levels heading down towards the kitchen area. It's also a very big house with only one bedroom. I guess it's common to have only one bedroom in the old days because my grandparent's house in Perak has one room too.

Don't you just love the carvings at the window? No way you can have a house like this in KL. Unless you want to have a 'Peeping Tom Party' on your lawn.

Sleeping on his favourite spot Posted by Hello

Introducing R-Mka's favourite cat.

He's actually a real wildcat. Her father found him alone by the highway so he decided to take the cat home. Likes to sleep on the bed especially when the aircond is turned on. This is one very pampered cat. I wonder what will happen if he's back in his natural habitat? Image hosted by Photobucket.com
